Mission: Water for LIFE is a massive effort on the part of Life Outreach to drill new water wells this year in drought- and disease-stricken areas around the world.

Each year 3.4 million people, mostly children, die from water-related diseases; that is one person every eight seconds. In Africa alone, 85 percent of all illness in children under 5 are caused by waterborne diseases. No matter the country or continent, water is the most precious gift. That’s why Mission:Water for LIFE is drilling wells in the most desolate areas of the world.

Mission:Water for LIFE was born out of the Mission Feeding program in Africa. Expanding the vision, this outreach is now drilling wells in over 20 nations around the world. Using both large and small drilling rigs to bore holes up to 1000 feet deep, we can drill a well that becomes a fountain of life for an entire community. In most cases that well will last at least 25 years.

Each well becomes a beacon of hope in the midst of desperation. It not only brings clean water to thirsty mouths but also brings the Living Water to thirsty souls.

Our mission partners in Africa, under the direction of Peter Pretorius, completed their year-end report for 2005. The Water for LIFE goal was to drill 150 new water wells in the most desperate areas of Africa, including Sudan. By the end of the year, 152 new wells had been drilled! The five-year total (2000-2005) for Africa is now 923 new wells, providing fresh, clean water to hundreds of thousands of people.

Though we are making a huge difference in the lives of many people, 56% of the rural communities still do not have access to safe drinking water. Coverage in Africa of sanitation for people is a mere 36%, which creates huge challenges for health and normal living conditions.
