LIFE's
water program seeks to globally supply fresh water to those in
need. A single well, on average, is expected to provide clean
drinking water for at least a thousand people for their lifetime,
producing over 7 million gallons of water. Since the inception
of our Water for LIFE program, we have drilled over 2,500 wells
thus providing water to over 2.5 million people. But a much greater
need still remains, as about 1 billion people lack access to safe
water -- that's nearly 1 in 6 people!
Depending upon the level of need, LIFE's boreholes are sited with advanced geophysical methods and concrete encased. Wells are installed with a simple hand-pump, so that even young children can access the water. And every well is dug under the strictest international standards to ensure the safest consumption of the water once completed. The average cost of a single well, $4,800 USD, includes the expenses of fuel, maintenance on the rig and drilling equipment, and the materials and manpower necessary to complete the well. |
Nearly 4 million people die each year from a contaminated water related illness, mostly children under the age of 5.
That's over 330,000 people a month
...10,000 people a day
...400 people each hour
...over 7 people a minute
...and one person every 8 seconds!
